Why Story boards?
I have taken 3 projects and put together 3 short presentations to highlight some of the work that goes into my projects.
On the surface these story boards may seem like they are all about CAD (Computer-aided design) but that is just the surface.
You need to read between the lines - what is really going on is:
Creating clear communication and agreements before the work starts
Foreseeing problems before they are built
Facilitating better project management
Ensuring consistent quality
Creating better work flow to achieve better time & cost efficiency
It's about what the client needs
The main difference between these 3 jobs is not the size - but in the needs of the clients
Story Board 1 - Major addition
The client had architectural plans and a DA they were happy with
They wanted to optimize headroom, particularly at bulkheads
They wanted to express the roof line upstairs to full advantage
They wanted a good job at a fixed price
Story Board 2 - Outdoor Living
A DA was not needed - so there were no plans
The client had a good idea of what she wanted with photos from magazines
But needed help putting her ideas together
Needed visual prompts to help make up her mind
Had a budget - so needed to know how much it was going to cost before starting
Story Board 3 - Covered Balcony
The client had architectural plans and a DA
but the plans ignored the difficulty of making the roof not leak at its box gutter.
They wanted to make the work look good, not just a flat ceiling - but not sure what
