I don't have any before shots - but the back of this house had a small deck that was falling apart with a small normal door to the back of the house and no awning. The back yard was overgrown and partially paved with small, uneven brick pavers.

The client had lots of pictures from magazines and ideas about what she wanted - but no plans.

We started with this as our design for tender

This formed the basis of the original tender.

Privacy was a major design criteria, but the roof didn't feel good enough so we looked at extending the gable of the existing house. The client liked that much more.

The client wanted a Balinese cross feel and was very involved in materials & product selection. I think she had a good eye and made good choices.

You can see more pictures back in the Cammeray section of Photos

The original design of a low level deck with covered BBQ on the side was changed.

We came up with these next 3 elements.

First this pond / planter with waterfall.

And a platform around an existing tree (to cover a lot of exposed roots) with a bench on two sides.

The covered BBQ area of the original tender changed to this and was moved to the opposite corner.

Here you can see the 3 elements.

The yard was finished with large pavers and bamboo (not grown yet in this photo) to create more privacy along the back fence.

I don't normally get as involved in design work - it's not my thing. But this client was really did a lot of homework. But still, no matter who the client is, I'll only proceed on a project when there is a fixed price and a firm definition of the extent of the work. The above documentation supported the tender documents to facilitate clear communication and an understanding of what was expected in completing the works.
